The Pony Rider Boys in the Rockies Or the Secret of the Lost Claim edition by Frank Gee Patchin Literature Fiction eBooks

Frank Gee Patchin, born in 1861 during the time which the people of America were excited about territories becoming States. Missouri became a State in 1821. The author chose Chillicothe Missouri as a setting for this novel. Kansas and Missouri reccieved cattle from Texas, Oklahoma, and Mexico. Kansas City, Mo. was known for its' slaughter houses where the animals were butched and shipped by rail to the East. "Beef in Texas was four dollars a pound whereas in the East it was forty dollars a pound" therefore animals were driven to areas offering the best price for their animals. Cattle was driven through dangerous areas where outlaws and Indians were waiting to prey on them. Chisholm Trail, one of the many passages traveled by the cattle drivers.

When I moved to Kansas City, Missouri the odors from the slaughter houses were quite distinct. Kansas City, Mo. and Kansas City, Kansas are twin cities separated by the Missouri River. The trains are near the packing area for moving and loading the beef. The area economy is supported by the beef industry, cattle are shipped by rails and trucks for processing.

The Pony Rider Boys in the Rockies... by Frank Gee Patchin is an excellent book about the adventures of teenagers traveling from Missouri to the Rockies. The Rockies being that beautiful chain of mountains located in the Western section of the United States. It is a wonderful area as seen from airplanes when I fly to Calilfornia. The mighty Colorado River over which the Hoover Dam was built to harness water and electricity for California and Nevada is grand.

Well now I will give some information about the novel, three boys leave Chillicothe, Mo. for a vacation fianced by one of the parents. They are accompanied by a professor who is hired to look after their well being. They travel west and meet with the guide and head for the Rockies with their ponies and mules. One adventure unravel after another culminating in the finding of, "The Lost Claim Mine" that was discovered by the poorest and bravest boy of them.

This is a very delightful book to read, I reccomend it to pre-adolescents as well as to readers of all later ages. It will remind adults and olders people of their younger days as well as delight the younger generations.

a very adventurous story with some laughter all in all a great book to read if you like adventurous stories! boys will most probably love it.
OK story but not for adults. Too simplistic. Characters not very realistic. Won't read any of the rest of the series.
Predictable - somewhat disappointing in its judgment of people challenged by weight.
I love the way this book transports you to a time when the Old West era was ending and the modern era was beginning. The book shows how these boys develop self-reliance and, at the same time, come to care for each other as if they were brothers. This is a juvenile book targeted, at the time, to teenagers but it is an easy and enjoyable read for anyone. Read and enjoy.
This book is a good adventure yarn for boys particularly. It should appeal to all young people with a taste for the outdoors. I had to mark my rating down because of a shameless flagrant absence of any attempt to proof-read this document.
